Scout Boutique Burlesque Model on Main Street in Vancouver, BC (Canada).
As Christmas draws near, so too do special events and sales. Scout Boutique (152 East 8 Avenue, 604-879-7903) on Main Street, Vancouver kicked off the holiday season with a fashion show and sale in their teeny, tiny shop.
The theme: Mad Men-inspired pin up creations. The models: local burlesque dancers. The outcome: a show full of sass, energy and laughter. Now that’s my kind of runway show.
I also used this time to scour through the racks of women’s clothes. The dresses here are flirty and take risks. Some of the designers use bold patterns and colours, while others stick to simpler palettes and sassy styles.
The best part is that while you’re shopping, you’re being watched over by retro power women. The portraits of 70s femme fatales add to the store’s retro feel.
Prices are reasonable, too. The dresses seem to average just over $100 CAD and are mostly locally designed. A corsetiere was also featured in the show, her shop a few doors down.

What I Liked:
- I’m not too big on fashion shows, mostly because I don’t connect with the models and always feel a little awkward staring at them as they pout down the runway. Not at Scout Boutique. These women put on a mini show and had the crowd laughing and cheering.
- I love the retro style they’ve got going on here. Pin up dresses are flattering and hot!
- The models, who are local burlesque dancers, are also employees, so they make shopping at Scout even livelier.
- The show was organized by my good friend and fabulous PR professional, Nicole Stewart. She puts on fabulous events!
