Richmond Hotel: Executive Airport Plaza Room

The Executive Airport Plaza Hotel & Conference Centre is the closest Richmond hotel to the Olympic Oval (where speed skating medal competitions will be held during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games). From the rooftop garden, you can see the Olympic Oval, making it less than a 10-minute walk to the sports venue.

This Vancouver airport hotel has a focus on meeting rooms and convention facilities. There is 17,000 square feet of banquet and convention space and 16 meeting rooms, making this a great hotel for business travel.

The rooms are cleanly modern, with simple furnishings and muted colours. Although there are 231 rooms and junior suites, there are also nice condominium apartments for daily, weekly, and monthly rentals. 

Also indoors at the Executive Airport Plaza Hotel are a heated pool, Jacuzzi and fitness centre. The facilities are adequate, although not overly fancy.

What I liked:

• The rooftop garden is also a rooftop jogging path. Although it’s just a cement path, you can jog around the area overlooking the Olympic Oval, Minoru Park and the city of Richmond.
• The Foggy Dew Irish Pub is one of their onsite restaurants. Although the others, Tivoli’s Restaurant and Carver’s Steakhouse, garner more accolades, it’s nice to have a casual pub for travellers who just want to grab a pint or a relaxed meal.
• There is an attached cold beer and wine store, in case you want a night in with a cold beer or nice glass of wine (and don’t want to pay for room service).
