Rockwater Secret Cove Resort Tenthouse Suite in Halfmoon Bay, BC
Probably my favourite night of the trip to the Sunshine Coast was staying at Rockwater Secret Cove Resort in Halfmoon Bay, BC. I walked along the lengthy boardwalk to my “Tenthouse Suite” perched above the enticing Malaspina Strait.
These “tenthouses” are like private cottages, but the interiors are styled like actual tents. I could zip or unzip the fabric walls (which are reinforced on the outside) for views of the forest during the day or close myself in for the night.
But that’s where the “tent” ends. Inside each suite is complete luxury. I took advantage of the rain forest shower, hydrotherapy tub (with Chromatherapy, disco-like lights that supposedly balance energy), a free wireless connection and glorious views.
Unfortunately, it’s cold in February. I kept the fireplace going, set the radiant floor heating and employed a space heater. I added an extra blanket and got cozied up for bed. The rain pattering on the roof was pretty romantic and lulled me to sleep, but I was awakened not much later from the undeniable cold that stayed until the morning.

When I got up in the morning to make my way to breakfast, the boardwalk was as slippery as a waterslide. I brashly rolled my suitcase down the first part, keeping my balance and taking in the stunning view, but was caught up in the scenery and fell flat on my back. I looked around feeling like a moron and ended up taking three-inch steps for the rest of the loooong boardwalk.
Temperature-related mishaps aside, I did finally make it back to the main resort and had a lovely breakfast. This still ranks as one of my favourite stays and makes me a big fan of the “Tenthouse Suites.” I can’t even imagine how spectacular they would be on a warm summer evening, enjoying a glass of wine on the private deck overlooking Malaspina Straight.
