Ian and Mary Winn at Marian's on the Coast B&B in Sechelt, BC
After a wonderful morning snowshoeing on Grouse Mountain, the group of travel writers I was with had a lovely dinner at Spence on the Coast in Sechelt.
Executive Chef Spencer Watt put together a fantastic seafood tasting menu: think mahi mahi resting on a bed of beans (my favourite of the evening) and albacore tuna at its freshest. His mottos is, “I just like to wing it.”
From there it was off to a variety of B&Bs on the sunshine coast, mine being Marian’s on the Coast (1-877-889-2635). Mary and Ian Winn were my genial hosts who made the one night stay a real pleasure.
Their bed and breakfast is unique because it is pet-friendly. Couples, singles and families can bring their “best friend” on their travels and feel comfortable knowing that their pet will be well taken care of.

The couple has their own dog, who is a friendly bijon, although Ian calls her a “bratty bijon” with a grin.
I spent the night in the “Windsong Suite,” made for one or two, while two others in my group shared the “Ruffin’it Cottage.” Both accommodations were clean, warm and felt just like home (they even had the same coasters that I have on my own tables).
Breakfast was served from a menu we had filled out the night before, complete with fresh fruit and baking. It was a lovely night and it would have been delightful to spend some more time there. Thank you Mary and Ian!
My other travelling companions had wonderful things to say about the following Sechelt B&Bs: Sechelt Inlet (Dick and Jean Billingsley, 1-877-740-0776), Coracle Cove (Sheila and Jack Pope, 1-877-888-3790), and At the Shore (Peter and Norma Bond, 1-877-740-9962).
