Guests cooking a hotpot at POSH restaurant in Richmond, BC
The plethora of Asian restaurants in Richmond, BC is enormous. I don’t often make it over the bridge from Vancouver, but I got to have a whirlwind tour of some great Asian restaurants last week.
Shiang Garden Seafood Restaurant (2200- 4540 No. 3 Road, 604-273-8858)
After walking up two floors of concrete staircases, you open the door of the restaurant to a much nicer atmosphere: a bustling eatery serving Cantonese-style cuisine. The shrimp dumplings were my favourite. Food here is subtle in flavour and fresh in taste, my preferred combination.
Shanghai River Restaurant (110- 7831 Westminster Highway, 604-233-8885)
Shanghainese food is more robustly flavourful and a bit heavier, which is what this Asian restaurant specializes in. On the dumplings note, they make about 6,000 a day! The vegetarian hand-pulled noodles were delicious.

POSH (1123- 3779 Sexsmith Road, 604-303-7674)
This two year old Japanese Sukiyaki place is a major hit with both Asian and Caucasian diners. All-you-can-eat menus are offered and you choose the meat and veggies you want. You then cook the hotpot yourself in the on-the-table grill. A fun and entertaining experience.
Vogue Chinese Restaurant (1118- 3779 Sexsmith Road, 604-244-8885)
The food here looked great, but I was too full to eat any. The standout dish was definitely the fish shaped like a duck (see photo), winning the best presentation award of the day (bestowed unofficially by me).
All in all, I was easily convinced that Richmond is the place to be for Asian restaurants outside of Asian.

Hi Lori, That’s really helpful. I am living in BC since last 4 months and haven’t tried any of the above. Is there any Indian (expecially south Indian) restaurant in Richmond?

Can anyone chime in on this? Honestly, I usually dine in Vancouver for Indian food, mainly along Main from 49th Avenue south.
