I’m really big on smoothies. I try to have one everyday for breakfast, thick enough that I’m forced to eat them with a spoon. As a rule – they should contain cocoa, bananas, peanut butter, avocados and blueberries. Lots of fresh greens are also hard to do without. And then topped with shredded coconut or an edible flower.
Although I’ve gotten pretty good at making smoothies, I’m no master compared to the woman I learned from. When I was living in London, I spent a lot of time in Shoreditch with my dear friend Charisse. Each morning she would treat me and her two-year old daughter to a different smoothie. Each one was better than the next. They were so good, in fact, that the Chef living below her flat began requesting them from her.
One day Charisse mentioned offhandedly that she should open a juice shop. Within a few months, the East London Juice Co. was born.
If you’re in London and like healthy, organic, small-batch foodstuff, I highly recommend checking out Charisse’s shop.
