As you’ve probably guessed from my previous post about First Air, I have a certain opinion about flying trends these days. I’m a travel writer, so I spend quite a bit of time in airplanes.
Right now I’m travelling from Quebec City to Montréal on VIA Rail, the Canadian rail company that has routes all across the country. I am absolutely certain that this is the future of travel.
I arrived at the station a half an hour before departure to pick up my ticket, read some of the historical displays and make my way to the baggage check. I leisurely boarded the train, settled in (first class is definitely worth it) and relaxed.
As soon as we started rolling, I was brought a snack and then drinks (the wine kept coming for the duration). I chose my main course for lunch and, after receiving a hot cloth to wipe my hands, was served the appetizer and a baguette.
Seafood, dessert and more wine then came my way, along with tea and one more chocolate dessert. I could even set up the wireless on my laptop if I really wanted to stay connected.
The service was great, bilingual and personal. I had such a pleasant time staring out at the passing countryside, eating my lunch slowly, and writing. This is absolutely the way I want to keep travelling.
