My first trip to Quebec City was a smashing success! I adored the bustling centre inside the fortified walls and enjoyed getting outside the core to do a bit more exploring. It was also a pleasure to be surrounded by French-speaking people, although I was surprised that the majority of tourists were English speaking.

Quebec City from the St-Lawrence River
The highlight for me was a day on the Ile d’Orléans, about a 15 minute drive from Old Town. This is where 75% of the land is agricultural and the parishes reminded me of the Gulf Islands over on Vancouver Island, BC.
I tasted wine, paté, apples, cassis, fish, nougat and was even given a sugar pie to share with my guide (yes, it’s all gone now…). This was the best way to meet the locals, the ones who work the land to sustain the rest of Quebec City.
