With so much attention on skinny models, anorexic celebrities and the banning of underweight models, it’s no surprise that national magazines are starting to cover eating disorders in their editorial.

FLARE magazine, Canada’s largest national fashion magazine, asked me to write a Health Feature on my battle with bulimia.  I was thrilled to be able to reach 1.7 million women a month with my story of recovery.

They also agreed that I should focus on hope instead of bleak statistics and death rates.  I was pumped to share the fact that recovery is possible with such a wide audience.

Well, the fruit of my labour has finally paid off.  This month (the September issue) features my story.  It’s also got a photo of me that they didn’t airbrush to make look flawless.  It just looks like me and I’m very happy about that.

Next time you’re at the store, pick up a copy of FLARE magazine and turn to page 112.  If the story touches or inspires you in any way, I encourage you to write a letter to the editor to let her know your thoughts (letters@flare.com, with your city and daytime phone number).

Let me know your opinions here, too!
