Helicopter Tour Over the Rocky Mountains, Alberta

An early exit from the Jasper Brewing Company was essential last night, as it was an early start to get to Lake Louise, Alberta. On the way, though, there was a helicopter tour with our names on it.

We were meeting up with two other travel writers at Icefield Helicopter Tours, but when we got there, the owner had let them go up with another group. It was both of their first times in a helicopter, so they came down bubbling with excitement. We got our turn soon afterwards, and they hopped on again.

The Canadian Rocky Mountains are one of the most fantastic mountain ranges in the world. Seeing them from inside a six-person helicopter is a thrilling sight indeed. Shane, our pilot from Pemberton, BC, took us for a short ride to the top of a ridge, where no one could be seen or heard. This is where the company takes guests who book heli-hiking and heli-yoga trips. It’s stunning.

And then we found out that Shane had brought champagne. We explored the area a bit on foot, watched a few fishermen get dropped off by a helicopter at the lake below us, and then got silly with the champagne, knowing that Shane was our designated “driver.” Did I mention it was 10:00 am?

While we sipped our celebratory beverages, Shane told us that they also do weddings up here, as well as the hiking and yoga packages. There were no downward dog poses on this trip, but it does sound like something I’d like to try…

What I Liked:

  • The scenery of the Rocky Mountains speaks for itself, so a helicopter ride over it is a very special treat.
  • The staff at Icefield Helicopter tours are fantastic and skilful enough to handle all of us ladies :)
  • The company can book a 20-minute sightseeing tour or a multi-day fishing trip and everything in between.
