Cycling Tour in the Kettle Valley with Monashee Adventure Tours

His shouts echoed through the Okanagan Valley, getting stymied by the clouds. I was cycling along the Kettle Valley’s Myra Canyon with Trailhead Ed (aka. Ed Kruger) of Monashee Adventure Tours and our route took us 20 km round trip over 18 historic trestles and through two tunnels.

In 2003, a ravaging fire spread through the valley, taking with it 12 complete wooden trestles and over 200 homes. Since then, the trestles have been given new life and you can cycle right over them along the Myra Canyon (and you can keep going west to Merritt and Hope and south down to Osoyoos).

We stuck to the 20 km route that Ed says is one of his most popular tours on a tempestuous day of sunshine, wet rain and even a sprinkling of wet snow for a few minutes. (I swear; Ed can back me up on this one!)

We sweated, we marvelled at the valley below us and I was fortunate enough to see the canyon as if on a few different days: when the sun came out, I could see the trestles we had just ridden over (the path goes in a “w” shape); when the clouds and rain rolled in, the dense air felt like we were up in the Scottish Highlands on a drizzly day.

On top of that, Ed’s a really cool guy, someone you just want to keep hanging out with. In fact, this year his tours were awarded one of the 25 Best New Trips in the world by National Geographic Adventure Magazine, so he can’t be that bad, right?

I returned to Sparkling Hill Resort completely refreshed, full of laughter and ready to get back into those steam rooms. What a fantastic morning out on the trail.

Hi Lori, remember me? Your old bank manager. Was looking @ Kettle Valley info & came across your article. Looks like things are going well for you. We’re thinking of cycling the valley. What & who would you recommend?

Hey Ron! I’m glad you stumbled upon my site! I only cycled the portion that I wrote about in this blog, and only dealt with Ed Kruger at Monashee Adventures. Both were amazing: the Myra Canyon is gorgeous and Ed is a wonderful guide. I did notice a map on the trail that has the entire valley path mapped out- looks like an outstanding ride! If you want more specific info, I would suggest contacting Ed, especially if you’re looking for a guided or partially guided trip. Let me know what you decide!

Hi, Would be interested in obtaining maps, costs for the 20 km bike ride over the 18 trestles. Is it actually 10 one way and back again. Schedules.

Would this be a trail that we could ride on alone as a family as we have our own bikes, etc.??

Any other info would be appreciated. Any trails or rides that we could do on our own ATV’s

Hi Cam. There is more info and maps at this website: http://www.myratrestles.com/maps.php. If you have your own bikes, you can ride the trail on your own. Have fun!

Love to ride the KVR from Glen Fir to Penticton. We would like to ride from Myra Canyon to Naramata with a tour guide if possible but can not find an email address to send my enquiry. Could you please help me. Thank you.
