Chee Kung Tong (Chinese Freemasons) building, the only one in Canadian National Heritage listing in Barkerville, BC (Canada).
The reason for travelling to Barkerville, British Columbia is to step back to when the town was overcome with the gold rush, but it was the Chinese people who were some of the most industrious.
Half of today’s Barkerville is a Chinatown, like it was in the 1850s, filled with a tea shop, peace room, butcher shop, Chinese freemasons and a wonderful museum. Most of the Chinese miners who came to Barkerville from China came, coincidently, from the same area that my grandfather was from: Guangdong province (or the Canton province). So the Chinatown museum was filled with photos from the southern province, which was really neat to see.

For dinner, the group of us writers headed to Chinatown’s Lung Duck Tong restaurant. What an exceptional Chinese restaurant! Shirley made sure we were well-fed and we devoured every single bite we could in our bellies, and then some.
Really fresh, simple Chinese food at least rivalled what I’ve eaten in Richmond, BC, Asian food central. To top it off, we had deep fried bananas à la mode for dessert.
What I liked:
