A neat little retreat in Richmond, BC is the Richmond Nature Park. This is another free attraction that’s great for families.

Me as the Queen Bee at the Richmond Nature Park in Richmond, BC (Canada)
Inside the tiny nature house welcome centre, children can take advantage of the short-sized displays of hands on activities. Okay, so I also ran around playing with the displays, peaking at the mini frog, reaching into the unknown holes (and guessing what is there) and opening the mystery door that uncovers a prosperous bee colony. I even had my photo taken in the cardboard cut-out queen bee.
For the rest of the adults, you can go outside to the once-Lulu Island Bog. Now, the nature park is an ever-changing piece of land with trails that lead through colourful plants and berries.
If you stand still for a few minutes, you can watch the many birds go about their day while they squirrels whip in, out and up the trees.

Richmond Nature Park in Richmond, BC (Canada)
Take a stroll through the park from dawn until dusk, everyday of the year and play in the nature house daily from 9am – 5pm.
What I liked:
- The nature house is full of fun things to do, which the staff try to change regularly. Displays are built at kid-level, so children have their own playground of sorts.
- The bee colony is a neat sight, as they are living behind this wire wall and you can get right up close to them.
- Outside in the park, wildlife goes about its business. It’s a nice sanctuary in a busy city.
- Admission is free here (there’s a vocal little frog that steers your attention to the donation box).
