Richmond Hotel: Sandman Signature Room

Richmond Hotel: Sandman Signature Room

To start off a small series on Richmond hotels in Canada, I’ll begin with the Sandman Signature Hotel & Resort Vancouver Airport

After shutting the property down for two years, it’s been re-opened with new everything, from the concrete floors up. The hotel is much more of a resort now and really the only one in Richmond, BC.

The rooms are elegantly appointed, with modern furnishings and upscale style. Suites have sleek kitchens (I made notes for future renos of my condo…) and the laminate floors are much more like “home” than “hotel.”

Renovations aren’t complete yet, though. A Steve Nash Sports Club is currently being built next door, so hotel guests can choose to use the onsite facilities or go next door and use a world class gym.

Inside the hotel itself, there are three tennis courts, two squash courts and a small gym. The Steve Nash Sports Club will also be updating all of these facilities (they’re quite dated), so that guests can use the best equipment. When the overhaul is finished, these will be gorgeous amenities.

Another reno on the horizonise a kids pool area where guests can book rooms that walk right into the pool. And a great feature is the Cucumber Café, which is a little coffee and snack bar for those who don’t want a full meal at CHOP. I always wonder why hotels don’t have these, as they’re great for in between meals, food to go and a quick breakfast for those who don’t want a full meal.

What I liked:

  • There’s a waterslide! Not a little wimpy straight one but a windy beast that spans 225-feet!
  • Bedside lights are attached to the headboards and have an additional reading lamp on a moveable wire that you can point in any direction, so you can read in bed even if your partner wants to sleep.
  • Room clocks have a feature where you can project the time onto the roof, instead of having to find the clock in the dark.
  • CHOP is the onsite restaurant and the style is ultra modern mixed with classic touches. I didn’t eat here but the layout and rooms are first-class.
