I don’t have a car and don’t even like driving all that much (except on road trips to places I’ve never been!). So it’s interesting that my grandfather spent 52 years driving a truck through North America’s shoddy roads (at the time) and was as happy as he could be.

Port Coquitlam Truck Museum Article in West Magazine
Although he talked about his colourful experiences on the road, I had never really learned much about his life as a trucker. When the Coquitlam Truck Museum opened (officially called the Teamsters Freight Transportation Museum and Archives) in 1997, I knew I’d get there, someday.
It houses the history of trucking in Western Canada and so many stories about life on the road that it eventually had to expand to a larger facility in Port Coquitlam.
I finally made it to the truck museum last year and was absolutely captivated by “The Guys,” as everyone calls them. I feel proud to say that I tried to do my grandfather’s life a bit of justice by telling a trucking story in this month’s issue of West magazine.
