It has been 18 years since I put on my grass skirt and performed in a Polynesian dance show. On June 10th, I’ll be strapping on coconut shells and dancing for charity in Port Coquitlam.

A Night In The Sun is a biennial show by Kalaya Dancers, led by Kalaya Nilson, to raise money for a girls’ school in Kenya, East Africa, and to “adopt” a child from World Vision. This year it’s a nine year old girl named Loany Nicolle Rodriguez from Honduras.

A Night In The Sun takes place at my old high school, Terry Fox Secondary School, at 1:30 pm on Sunday June 10, 2012. Tickets are $15 (students and seniors) and $20 with ALL net proceeds going to the causes I mentioned above.

You can buy tickets in advance by calling May at 604-941-2353 or at the door if the show isn’t sold out. Theatre info and directions here.

I will also have my book for sale ($15 cash) during the show, with half of the net proceeds going towards the causes above. Mahalo!

Thanks for posting, David! I haven’t been to the Klahowya Village yet, but I will get there this summer, definitely while there is dancing. (For those interested, here is what we’re talking about in Vancouver: http://www.aboriginalbc.com/klahowya-village/ )
I had so much fun learning Metis dancing from Yvonne Chartrand at the John Arcand Fiddle Fest. I also had Yvonne perform at my book launch in April! Learning about Metis history in Canada has really enriched the way I understand this country.
