Pajo's Fish and Chips Restaurant at the Steveston Wharf in Richmond, BC (Canada)
On my first time eating on Steveston, BC’s wharf in Richmond (Canada), I was treated to some great food. Arguably the most popular eatery in the Steveston community is Pajo’s, located right on the wharf.
It’s one of those places that you just have to eat at every few times you go to Richmond (there are other locations in the Lower Mainland at Garry Point Park (Steveston), Rocky Point Park (Port Moody) and Gates Park (Port Coquitlam).
The menu is fast food seafood, but not in a bad way. Their fish & chips deliver with cod, salmon and halibut options, all very tasty. I didn’t try the burgers ($7.59 with fries) or hot dogs ($5.29 with fries) but the group I was with devoured the French fries like they were famished (in reality they were hungry, maybe, but certainly not famished…).

Your order comes in a paper cone and the tables set up have holes for sticking the cones in. It makes it easy to get a group crowded around the table, each jockeying for the last piece of fish. I heard the word “addictive” a few times.
For our “real” lunch, the group of us headed to the nearby Sockeye City Grill, still giddy with polishing off our fish & chips. This large, waterfront restaurant caters to families and those looking for a casual meal overlooking the Steveston harbour.
One of the local owners came out and welcomed us, informing the group that Sockeye City was actually a nickname for Steveston, which is why they chose to use it.
The lunch menu was filled with so many fresh seafood options it was hard to decide. Think seafood chowder, warm seafood salad, pan-fried oysters and Dungeness crab & tiger prawn cannelloni.
I went with the Hot Pot special, which was a seafood melody in curry broth. Delicious. We were told that the daily specials were the Chef’s place to get inspired and show off his creativity. He definitely delivered. My only question: what was with the constant stream of 80s music?

What I liked:
- The diversity of dining options on the Steveston, Richmond wharf. From ultra casual Pajo’s on the water to family friendly Sockeye City Grill, there were many other restaurants dotting the waterfront (and in the historic village) to choose from.
- Pajo’s is perfect for a group of friends to get together, order a mountain of fish & chips and chat the afternoon away in the harbour (perhaps watching the sunset?).
- Sockeye City Grill proved a great place for kids to colour their menus, space to explore and for their parents to sit down to a great meal.
