Steveston Seabreeze Adventures Bike Rentals in Richmond, BC (Canada)

Cycling in Richmond, BC is an often-overlooked outdoor activity, especially for travellers. Bike rentals are easy and this is one of the flattest cities in Canada outside of the prairies (that has no official backing statistic, by the way; it’s purely my opinion).

When I was in Richmond, I geared up with Steveston Seabreeze Adventures, right in Steveston village (they also do whale watching tours, fishing charters, and bird and sea lion tours).

The staff were great and were obviously used to dealing with groups. They suited up about 10 of us on all sorts of bikes and different sized helmets. Another travel writer commented that they had a tandem bike, which she had never tried before; I commented back that I had always wanted to try riding tandem. Voila, we took the two-person bike and were off!

I was in the back seat, trying not to steer in any way, while still contributing by peddling. It was a strange feeling to be going forward at a good pace without being able to see the road in front of me. I just had to trust that my cycling partner would steer us in the right direction. And she did.

We covered some of the smaller streets, rode through Garry Point Park and sailed past the dykes. It was all flat, so it makes a great location for beginner and intermediate level cyclists to tackle.

What I liked:

• There are tons of bikes to rent, so don’t worry about them running out of stock. There are mens, ladies and kids sizes, along with a few different helmet sizes to choose from.
• For those with kids, they also have child trailers or, of course, you can use the tandem bikes.
• The flat land in Richmond makes a great spot for those cyclists who are looking for an easy trail and comfortable workout.
• The staff at Steveston Seabreeze Adventures will store your bags and purses while you’re out on the road, so you don’t have to leave things in the car or at the hotel.
