For the first time, Vancouver welcomed the first annual Wines of Mexico Festival at the Metropolitan Hotel. Three wineries, Chocoatl chocolate boutique and Benson Brothers Fine Cheese shop joined together to serve up some tasty treats.

  • Monte Xanic: Chenin ColomBard 2007, Sauvignon Blanc 2007, Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 and Cabernet & Merlot 2005
  • L.A. Cetto: Chenin Blanc 2006, Petite Sirah 2004, Cabernet Sauvignon 2004, Zinfandel 2005 and Reserve Nebbiolo 2002
  • Santo Tomas: S.T. Unico, Duetto and Alisio Chardonnay; St Chardonnay; Cierzo Cabernet Sauvignon; Tardo Merlot and Valdepenas; Chenin Blanc; Viognier; and many reserves

What I liked:

  • The Petite Sirah 2004 from L.A. Cetto won my personal award for favourite wine of the evening
  • The delectable chocolate boutique, Chocoatl, had me swooning. The marshmallow dipped in the streaming chocolate fountain was decadent and the lavender hot chocolate will probably tempt me to make a trip to their shop in Yaletown (Chocoatl: 1127 Mainland Street, 604-676-9977)
  • I was also impressed with the cheese brought in by the Benton Brothers Fine Cheese shop in Kerrisdale. Mmmm, they were all good… (Benton Brothers Fine Cheese: 2104 West 41st Avenue, 604-261-5813)

Welcome from Vancouver Island. Great finding someone local through Darren’s course.

This could have been worth the trip over from Vancouver Island. Looks like fun, wine season is here!
