The Cardiff Castle in the Middle of the City of Cardiff in Wales, UK.
“When we captured Detroit, they were too busy watching the Super Bowl,” says one of the employees at Cardiff Castle in Wales. “Us and Canada kicked the USA’s $&#@!”
I was walking through the exhibit at the Cardiff Castle, the centrepiece of the city of Cardiff, and met two hilarious employees who I ended up chatting with for quite some time. I even got to hold one of the artefacts they were putting behind the glass when they asked me to read the very fine print on it, which was then used to tag the item. (If you go and see a small item mis-tagged, don’t blame me, I was just trying to help!)

A Cardiff Castle Dinner in one of the Oldest Parts of the Castle in Wales, UK.
Cardiff Castle is a magnificent building to have right in the middle of a bustling city. Even better, it opens its cellar doors, called the Undercroft, at night for dinner (£36 per person). You have to be into dinner theatre, though, to enjoy yourself.
As well as being treated to a Welsh meal, the wait staff put on quite the show. When I was there the staff were phenomenal singers (which is quite common in Wales; it seems like everyone could be good enough for the Welsh choir) and completely filled the small cellar with superb notes. They also got some of the audience up to perform on stage
The reason I was hanging out in Cardiff, and Wales for that matter, was for the annual conference of TMAC (Travel Media Association of Canada). There were over 100 delegates from Canada traipsing around the country and the UK. It was probably strange for such a small country to be randomly inundated with so many Canadians!

Hotel in Cardiff: The Parc Thistle Hotel in Wales, UK.
Hotels in Cardiff
The good part was that, with so many of us, they had to split us up into a few different hotels in Cardiff, so we were able to see a variety of accommodations. I stayed at the Parc Thistle Hotel, a simple, clean boutique accommodation with a nice buffet breakfast.
Others rested their heads in Barcelo Cardiff Angel Hotel, the least expensive option, in a gorgeous heritage building that has been sleekly renovated inside, and the Park Plaza Cardiff, the favourite for its pool and spa.
My favourite part about having the conference in Wales, though, was the pleasure of having our meetings and workshops in the stunning city hall (our AGM was held in the council chamber, where we all felt quite official!). What a nice “office.”
My only question: What’s with the young women dressed almost entirely in mini skirts, every night of the week??
