Indoor Swimming Pool at the Metropolitan Hotel Vancouver, BC

After sipping and grazing at the first annual Wines of Mexico Festival, I slipped upstairs to my room at the Metropolitan Hotel in Vancouver. Sliding into a Frette bathrobe, I ordered in some sushi and settled down for the Canucks game.

It’s one of those kinds of hotels: enough luxury to make it a treat, yet without the sleek shine of snootiness.

It was fun playing tourist in my own hometown of Vancouver. I took advantage of the indoor swimming pool that felt almost outdoor because of the broad bubbled windows facing the street.

The Director of Sales of The Met Vancouver, who took me on a tour of the property (see photo of the fabulous penthouse, which is the suite you fantasize about in your dreams) said she actually lived here when her own place flooded.

I agree in her assessment that the hotel somehow feels like a home away from home. The way the rooms are furnished keep a semblance of home, rather than an impersonal hotel room.

What I liked:

  • The doorbells outside of rooms
  • The Jaguar Vanden Plus “house car” that takes guests downtown between 7:30 and 9:00 am for free
  • The tiny three-hole golf greens on the third floor terrace
  • The child’s in-room dining menu: kids-sized burgers, pasta, pizza and even steak starting at $4.25. Dessert includes “I Scream, You Scream, We all Scream for Ice Cream” and “Cookie Monster’s cookie plate” for $3.00
