The last night of our trip up the Sunshine Coast, BC took us to Lund. This is where the world’s longest highway, Pan-American Highway (or Highway 101) ends after crawling its way north from South America.

The small fishing village is a great gateway to Desolation Sound and soft outdoor adventures.

We hitched a ride over to the nearby Sevilla Island, where owner Ian Hobbs enticed us with photos of his outdoor water adventures and the breathtaking scenery in the secluded area.

Ian and his wife run Sevilla Island Resort, a four-room bed and breakfast-type accommodation. They specialize in eco-adventures around the six world class marine parks in the area. This is definitely a place I want to come back to and explore on the water.

The evening brought us back to Powell River to the Laughing Oyster Restaurant.

We eventually rested out heads at the interesting Historic Lund Hotel. This partially renovated hotel has a neat historic lobby and is complete with ghost stories and a former jail in the basement (unfortunately, it has been ignored and is now a storage area for the hotel).

The refurbished rooms are really nice (see photo- there are four of them), although the older rooms are quite outdated. It’s a strange mix of small town fishing village and an effort to bump up the star rating.

I agree with you about Desolation Sound. I would love to explore the area in summer, by boat or bike. The pictures were so beautiful!

Did you have a chance to eat at the Lund Hotel? I was there about 10 years ago by boat and we had a pretty decent meal. Must have been about the time the new owners took over. I recall the place looking a little shabby.

No, I didn’t eat there, just did a quick walk through. The place isn’t a shining diamond, that’s for sure, but they’re slowly and surely shining it up. The location is so gorgeous.
