After my exciting morning watching the Pittsburgh Penguins practice, I headed back to the Igloo to catch the game against the Boston Bruins. Arriving at the arena early, I gratefully walked past the snaking line up and into gate 3 with a flash of my media pass.

First Faceoff in Penguins and Bruins Game on Dec. 30, 2008
This led me to the “Media Lounge,” where I paid my $10 and sat down for the dinner buffet. Looking around, I saw familiar faces like the Penguins GM Ray Shero and local sportscasters, as well as a plethora of suit jackets with the NHL logo on them.
Contentedly full, I made the trek up to the press box and found my seat in the midst of laptops and many spreadsheets covered in player statistics. I was happy to just have my notebook and enthusiasm.
Unfortunately, the exceptional Bruins carried on their winning streak and won 5-2. It was a difficult night, as Pittsburgh was notching more losses than wins in the month of December and had a record of 7-10-1.
It’s also hard losing at home, but the crowd stayed with them until the end. When the final buzzer sounded, I followed the rest of the media downstairs to face the Penguins after another hard loss.
